Star Tester (SDS)

An auto business started by an American Engineer and a German Technician was destined to be a leader in testing technology. For nearly thirty years Continental Imports has strived to maintain the standard of the industry in both training and up to date tooling. The list of industry standard and vehicle specific special tools is too large to discuss. For those truly interested in evaluating a modern shop, the current benchmarks of a true professional are the diagnostic computers employed by the manufacturers for their own service facilities. Ever so rare in an aftermarket repair facility these tools will usually identify a shop that is truly prepared. The first tool pictured is the Star Tester or SDS built for Mercedes Benz and used in all MB service facilities. It interfaces with all MB modern computer systems and guides the technician through diagnosis, testing, adapting and programming of problems and new control units. Continental Imports has two of these computers and maintains a monthly subscription with Mercedes that keeps us absolutely current.

Group Tester One (GT1)

BMW also is one of the leaders in sophisticated systems and the tooling necessary to work on them. The diagnostic software program DIS just as the software DAS runningon SDS resides on the tool GT1 (group tester one).
Autologic
Both these systems for MB and BMW also include the only data base of diagnostic information available. There is absolutely NO other source. While system theory, wiring, and repair info is available variously through online, CD, and subscription data systems the only source of diagnostic data is that which is built into these tools. In BMW's case, almost all new modules will also need coding or programming mostly unavailable through other sources. Continental Imports has one of these special computers kept at the latest updated level.

While programming for MB's is only accomplished through SDS and the subscription platform to finish with the final SCN calibration coding, there is a very well put together aftermarket tool for BMWs and Jags. This tool will do the full range of testing and programming. It is called Autologic and is out of the United Kingdom. We also has one of these.

Porsch Systems Tester 2 (PST2)
Hammer
No review of German diagnostic tooling would be complete without talking about Porsche. Continental Imports actually bought its first diagnostic computer through Bosch in 1989, and it was the first scanner tool for Porsche widely referred to the "hammer". Still a useful tool for early 90's models, it was replaced in the mid 90's by the Porsche Systems Tester 2 (PST2). We have both of these tools.

These tools are unusual to find in an independent repair facility, one at a time Continental Imports has them all and it is really just a start. While these are the most impressive in the functionality (and expense), Continental maintains the factory diagnostic tooling for a number of other cars including Jaguar, Volvo, Saab, Lexus, and Honda. Here is picture of the lineup next to our control computer for our Clayton 500HP Virtual Test Track chassis dynometer and Bosch engine analyzer.
